19/05/2018. A picture depicting Valentin Alcantarilla Mercado who was assassinated by dictator Francisco Franco's forces is placed on top of his remains inside a niche during his burial at the cemetery on May 19, 2018 in Sacedon, Guadalajara province, Spain. General Franco's forces killed Timoteo Mendieta and other people between 1939 and 1940 after Spain's Civil War and buried them in mass graves in Guadalajara's cemetery. Argentinian judge Maria Servini used the international human rights law and ordered the exhumation and investigation of Mendieta's mass grave. The exhumation was carried out by Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory (ARMH) recovering 50 bodies from 2 mass graves and identified 24 of them. Spain's Civil War took the lives of thousands of people on both sides, but Franco continued his executions after the war has finished. Spanish governments has never done anything to help the victims of the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship while there are still thousands of people missing in mass graves around the country.
