20110803 Indignants try to gain access to Sol Square { 11 images } Created 4 Aug 2011

Spanish riot police block 'indignant' protesters who try to gain access to Puerta del Sol Square in Madrid on August 3, 2011, after being evicted in a dawn raid. Hundreds of protesters crammed into each of the sidestreets leading to the central square of Puerta del Sol, birthplace of a nationwide protest against the suffering caused by Spain's economic blight. Lines of riot police crossed their arms and stood in front of the demonstrators, who gathered in swelling numbers in response to Facebook and Twitter pleas for a mass response to their eviction.
