SPAIN, Madrid : "indignant" protesters take some rest during a demonstration in the Puerta del Sol square after it was re-opened to the public, in Madrid, on August 5, 2011. The square had been closed and cordoned off by police and riot police for three days, and "indignant" protesters had organized daily protests in which they tried to access the square. The tension between police and protesters culminated in riot police charging hundreds of demonstrators who had gathered outside the interior ministry on August 4 after trying unsuccesfully to gain access to Madrid's Puerta del Sol square for the third straight day, which resulted in twenty people being injured, including some police officers. A rally against police brutality was held in the afternoon on August 5, before the Puerta Del Sol square was ultimately re-opened in the evening.
