A 'Maya' girl sits on the altar during the 'La Maya' tradition in the streets around the San Lorenzo church on May 10, 2015 in Lavapies neighborhood, Madrid, Spain. 'La Maya' festivity is a pagan tradition to celebrate the beginning of the spring which is believed to come from the medieval age. In old times the 'Maya's Festival' used to take place at The 'Mayas' field' (Prado de las Mayas) which is where now the San Lorenzo church is located. La Maya combines symbols of fertility and prosperity on agriculture and shepherding economy. A 'Maya' girl dressed with traditional customs sits on an altar in the street decorated with flowers, plants and cushions. Other Mayas and Mayos offer flowers, traditional sweets, lemonade, and wine to members of the public as they play music and dance. (© Pablo Blazquez)
