24/09/2017. Archeologist work at a mass grave known as 'La Fosa de los Maestros' (The teachers' mass grave) containing the bodies of 7 people in a field in Cobertelada on September 24, 2017 near Almazan, in Soria province, Spain. The seven people where allegedly assassinated on August 25, 1936 after being take from prison of Almazan during the Spanish Civil War by Falangists, as part of General Francisco Franco armed forces. The remains are supposed to belong to teachers in the region, who were also friends of Spanish writer Antonio Machado. The exhumation was done by members of ARANZADI and La asociacion Soriana Recuerdo y Dignidad (ASRD) 'The Soria Association for Memory and Dignity'. Spain's Civil War took the lives of thousands of people on both sides and civilians, but Franco continued his executions after the war has finished. Teachers, as part of the education sector, were often a target of Franco's forces. Spanish governments has never done anything to help the victims of the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship while there are still thousands of people missing in mass graves around the country.
